Engineered hardwood floors are a popular choice due to their durability, versatility, and relatively straightforward installation process. Here's a general overview of how engineered hardwood floors are installed:

Acclimation: Before installation, the engineered hardwood planks need to acclimate to the room's environment. This involves storing the flooring materials in the room where they will be installed for a period specified by the manufacturer. This allows the wood to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the space and helps prevent issues like warping after installation.

Subfloor Preparation: The subfloor must be clean, dry, and level. Remove any existing flooring, carpet, or debris. If the subfloor is uneven, it may need to be leveled with self-leveling compounds or plywood underlayment.

Moisture Barrier: In areas with higher humidity or moisture concerns (e.g., basements, bathrooms), a moisture barrier is usually recommended to prevent any potential damage to the engineered hardwood. This is usually a plastic or foam sheeting that acts as a vapor barrier.

Underlayment: Some installations may require an underlayment, especially when installing over concrete subfloors. The underlayment helps reduce noise and provides a slight cushion for the flooring.

Layout and Starting Point: Plan the layout of the flooring to ensure a balanced and visually appealing installation. Start the first row against a straight wall, leaving a small gap (usually around 1/4 inch) between the edge of the plank and the wall to allow for expansion.

Installation: Most engineered hardwood floors use either a click-and-lock or tongue-and-groove installation system. For click-and-lock systems, simply snap the planks together. For tongue-and-groove systems, apply a small amount of wood glue to the groove of one plank, then insert the tongue of the adjacent plank into the groove and tap them together using a mallet and tapping block. Repeat this process row by row.

Cutting: You'll likely need to cut some planks to fit the last row or around doorways and obstacles. Use a circular saw or a miter saw to make precise cuts.

Expansion Gaps: Leave expansion gaps around the perimeter of the room, including doorways and transitions to other flooring materials. These gaps allow the engineered hardwood to expand and contract with changes in humidity.

Finishing Touches: Install any necessary trim or transition pieces to complete the installation. This includes baseboards, quarter-round, and threshold strips.

Cleaning and Maintenance: Once the installation is complete, clean the floors thoroughly and follow the manufacturer's guidelines for maintenance to keep them looking their best.

It's important to note that specific installation methods can vary depending on the manufacturer's instructions and the type of engineered hardwood flooring being used. Our professional installers ensure a successful and long-lasting installation.
